I Am Old - I Don't Dispute That

I am old(er) - this I know and accept.

Getting older does not mean that I am loosing touch with the state of popular music. It means that popular music is loosing touch with me.

Getting older:
Being asleep at 11PM (latest)
White hairs in my beard
Cutting the grass and caring about it, etc, etc.
I am absolutely sure that my age is not an excuse for the state of today's music industry. Nor is it the reason that most of today's "popular" music is insulting.

I am sure it is the new unquality of this new pop and not my dated perception of it.

I would like to think that since I was a lad (almost 20 years now) I have been an appreciator of music with a slight 45 degree angle... Started with the Chillis and Metallica (they were actually relevant at one time) Dinosaur Jr, Nirvana (monumental life changer for me) Pantera, Dead Milkmen, Public Enemy, Dead Kennedy's, Suicidal, Depeche Mode, FNM, Dayglo Abortions etc, etc... That and this being said (?) I can never remember turning to FM radio and being hit with the shit hammer that exists today. Every stop on that FM station searcher is nauseating. Okay look, even though I honestly prefer "alt" stuff, I still have always had respect for a perfectly crafted pop song with an undeniable hook. I think mid 80's Gino Vanelli is a perfect example - shit, this guy was like the Paul McCartney of Francophone Can Con. His greatest hits could honestly give The Eagles a run for their Desperados. "People Gotta Move," "I Just Wanna Stop," "Living Inside Myself," "Black Cars." Pure pop perfection.

If the mood is right, I can and will get down with just about anything (new country omitted.) Put on some Annie Lennox, Tom Cochrane, Boz Scaggs, Gowan, Eric Clapton and I am cool. I respect their song writing and give them props even though I would not as a general rule spend money on one of their recordings or to see them light up a stage.

Pop today is pure factory. 20 auto tune products (songs) a minute. It's insulting and repulsive. Who are these people? They could be robots or acne or they could be an old oak tree stump. We may never know for sure.

The state of pop music today is really the reason behind there being so much amazing non pop music available today. I am confident it is an evolution of music. As the mindless flock to the Wal Mart's of our industry, the real seekers find quality goods at Curly's Hat Shop downtown. Good music today is exciting. Everything outside of main street pop is impressive, inspiring, etc. It needs to be found and when it is found it feels so rewarding. It has all changed... gone is an industry pumping your brain full of what they choose to sell to you. It is now about seeking out what you want, whenever you want. The choosing has returned to music and their is a very dated industry wondering how they can auto tune their machines to become efficient again.

Test of Time

Me and the boys were talking today...
Talking about a Creed reunion...
Talking about a revolution - yeah...
Talking about the same old shit...
